THW Kiel followed up four days after winning the German Handball Cup in the Bundesliga.

The record champions won their home game against HSG Wetzlar on Thursday 27:24 (13:8) and thus secured their second place in the table.

Sven Ehrig with four goals for Kiel and Stefan Cavor with five goals for Wetzlar were the best throwers.

The North Germans pulled away from 6:6 to 10:6 (19 th ).

Wetzlar remained without a goal for more than eight minutes and then weakened themselves just before the break when Adam Nyfjäll received a red card after a rough attack on Kiel's Croatian captain Domagoj Duvnjak (29').

After his third time penalty, Felix Danner was the second HSG player to see the red card (47').

The Mittelhessen, who had won three of the last four games against THW, only became dangerous late on in front of the 9613 spectators.

THW keeper Niklas Landin once again showed a strong game, making 21 saves.

For Wetzlar, ten deflected balls and a goal by the German national goalkeeper Till Klimpke were not enough.

In the bottom of the table, HBW Balingen-Weilstetten lost 21:29 (7:15) at Bergisches HC and GWD Minden 22:33 (13:19) at Frisch Auf Göppingen.

The Rhein-Neckar Löwen show increasing form at 31:28 (15:13) at SC DHfK Leipzig.

HC Erlangen won against MT Melsungen 32:31 (16:15).
