The former Tour de France champion plans to return to competition after recovering from a serious injury

Colombian Egan Bernal, the former Tour de France champion, has recovered from serious injuries sustained in an accident three months ago, and can return to competition soon.

Gustavo Oriza, Bernal's attending physician, revealed in a video conference of the National Academy of Medicine in Colombia today, Wednesday, that Bernal has recovered well from his injuries, and will be ready to participate in the races again in about four weeks.

Bernal intends to return to Europe in the coming days, and to resume training with the Ineos team.

Bernal, the first Colombian to win the Tour de France in 2019, hit a parked bus during his training in his country last January.

Bernal suffered multiple fractures of the ribs, vertebrae, thigh and knee, as well as an injury to the lungs.
