Giorgio Chiellini experienced his greatest success as a football player at Wembley Stadium in London.

Last summer, Italy became European champions there.

Captain and defender Chiellini not only returned home with a beautiful silver trophy, but with a golden crown.

The 37-year-old put it on for fun in that big hour.

Since then there has been talk of "Re Giorgio", King Giorgio, in Italy.

On June 1st he will play his last match for the Squadra Azzurra.

Then European champions Italy meets Latin American champions Argentina, again at Wembley.

"It would be great to play my last game in this context against Argentina," said Chiellini after his side Juventus Turin's 2-1 victory at Sassuolo Calcio.

"When I'm healthy, I play.

It will definitely be my last game for the Azzurri.” Most recently, “Chiello”, as the giant from Tuscany is known in player circles, was often battered or injured.

On Monday, coach Massimiliano Allegri brought in his captain just over half an hour before the end of the game.

"Let's make room for the younger ones, they're good," said Chellini.

Chiellini is a special football king.

Actually always in a good mood, unless Luis Suarez bites him in the shoulder, as happened in the 2014 World Cup match against Uruguay.

Chiellini, who was outraged at the time, has long since forgiven the biter Suarez.

"We're alike," he later stated in his autobiography.

He was referring to the cunning of the striker and his own as a centre-back.

Some attackers fear the 1.87 meter man Chiellini as an opponent.

He always plays with full commitment, technically not always flawless, often on the edge of what is permitted.

And then, even after tough duels, always with a smile on your face.

Spain's Jordi Alba felt Chiellini's exuberant happiness ahead of the penalty shoot-out in the EURO semi-finals.

When drawing lots, he laughed, squeezed and punched the little Catalan, who was visibly irritated by so much looseness at that moment.

Chiellini's contract with Juve runs until mid-2023.
