Last week, Sweden faced Denmark in an international match.

Then the national team captain Johan Garpenlöv, who had left the national team collection, was missing.

Tre Kronor's press officer Linus Hugosson then announced that it was about "personal reasons".

Now Johan Garpenlöv tells about the reason for his absence.

- My father Kjell is old and got blood poisoning, it was an infection that he went in too late with.

It became acute, as it is with old people.

So far, everything has gone well, so it felt like there was a time to go with the national team again.

He is still in the intensive care unit, but the situation is stable, he tells Sportbladet.

- It was not stable when I went home, that was why I wanted to go home and if something were to happen.

So it felt like the right decision.

"Sends good signals to others"

The national team captain is now back in place in Vienna, where Tre Kronor is charging ahead of the World Cup.

First the Czech Hockey Games and then the Beijer Hockey Games in the Avicii arena in Stockholm.

More players can join the later tournament, not least from the NHL.

- The NHL players must play clearly first, then we get in touch to get an I or no.

It would be optimal if the players who say yes come to the Beijer Hockey Games, but it is not certain that they will have time.

We will clearly go out with those who say yes and those who say no, says the league captain.

NHL stars such as Erik Karlsson, San Jose Sharks, Lucas Raymond, Detroit Red Wings, and Rasmus Dahlin, Buffalo Sabers have shown interest in World Cup games.

"Garpen" is in favor of this and says that it "sends good signals to others".

Tre Kronor meets Austria on Thursday.

The World Cup takes place between 13-29 May.
