Betis Sevilla have conquered the Spanish Football Cup for the third time after 1977 and 2005.

In the final of the Copa del Rey, coach Manuel Pellegrini's team beat FC Valencia 5-4 on penalties on Sunday night.

After 90 minutes and extra time, it was 1-1 (1-1) in front of a good 53,000 spectators in the Estadio de La Cartuja.

Juan Miranda converted the decisive penalty in the jump-off after Yunus Musah had missed for Valencia.

In the first half, Betis had more of the game and consequently took the lead early on.

Borja Iglesias headed in from close range (11').

In the middle of the first half, striker Hugo Duro scored to equalize Valencia 1-1 (30').

Betis was not deterred by the somewhat surprising goal and pushed for the lead again, but captain Sergio Canales hit the post just before the break (44th).

The second half was a balanced picture for a long time.

In the final phase, Betis pushed again, Juanmi hit the post again from 17 meters.

Five minutes later, France international Nabil Fekir had a free shot but missed the goal.

Valencia were lucky at this stage.

Betis had failed in the Europa League in the round of 16 at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Record cup winners FC Barcelona had already been eliminated in the round of 16.
