The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) put a brake on the trade between the Kiwoom Heroes and the KIA Tigers, a professional baseball team on the 24th.

Instead of giving catcher Dong-won Park to KIA on that day, Kiwoom made a trade with infielder Tae-jin Kim for the 2nd round pick in 2023 and 1 billion won in cash.

Trades are made autonomously between clubs, but the KBO secretariat seems to have put the brakes on the fact that the subject of the trade is Kiwoom, which has caused quite a stir, and cash is involved.

It is known that KBO President Huh Gu-yeon's will to not approve this was strong.

The KBO Secretariat said, "We will make a decision on whether to approve the trade after carefully reviewing the details."

Kiwoom has in the past been heavily criticized by fans by selling key players to competing teams for cash.

In addition, the club that bought the players as well as raising money by collecting more money in addition to the disclosed amount also disturbed the market order and was humiliated together.

In order to prevent opaque cash trades, the KBO secretariat and representatives of 10 clubs decided to strictly ban back contracts in 2018.

In case of violating the regulations prohibiting side contracts, the club's first-time selection for the next year will be forfeited, fines of KRW 1 billion will be imposed, and players will not be able to play in the KBO League for one year.

Kiwoom's trade with cash was also held last year.

Kiwoom signed a contract with bullpen pitcher Kim Sang-soo on January 13, 2021 for a total of 1.55 billion won, including 400 million won in down payment, 300 million won in annual salary, and 150 million won in options (100 million won added if 1 year is fulfilled) for 2+1 years of contract period. After signing a free agent contract with , I sent him to the SK Wyverns (now SSG Landers) in a 'sign and trade' format.

In return, it was a condition of receiving 300 million won in cash and the right to nominate a rookie player in the second round of 2022.

The KBO's decision may be linked to Kiwoom's previous request to approve Kang Jung-ho (35)'s voluntary resignation, so the baseball world is paying close attention to the KBO's move.
