• Stade Rennais largely won this Sunday afternoon in the derby against Lorient (5-0).

  • In great shape at the moment, Martin Terrier scored his 21st goal of the season, returning to just one unit behind Kylian Mbappé.

  • Transformed this season, the former Lyonnais admits having reached a milestone and gained in maturity.

Kylian Mbappé is not on vacation yet.

If PSG is already crowned champion of France after its draw on Saturday against Lens, the Parisian striker still has the title of top scorer to seek.

And the match promises to be tight with Martin Terrier and Wissam Ben Yedder.

This Sunday afternoon, the Rennes striker indeed scored his 21st goal of the season during the big victory against Lorient (5-0), coming back only one unit from the native of Bondy.

Named best Ligue 1 player of the month for March, Martin Terrier is walking on water at the moment.

Already at the start of the action which led to Rennes' first goal signed Bourigeaud (17th), the striker doubled the lead two minutes later with a sublime flat foot.

A 21st goal which made him a legend since he is now the Breton club's top scorer in a season in the 21st century, thus overtaking the legend Alexander Frei (20 goals in 2003-2004 and 2004-2005).

Only Stéphane Guivarc'h has so far done better in the history of Stade Rennais with 22 goals scored during the 1996-1997 season.

“He realized his potential”, according to Genesio

By scoring a goal for the 7th meeting in a row, Martin Terrier also wiped out Jean Grumellon who had stopped at six in 1949-1950.

Two records therefore which leave the Rennes striker somewhat unmoved.

“I don't think about that,” he said after the meeting.

More talkative, Bruno Genesio still wanted to congratulate him at a press conference.

"I'm very happy for him because he's had some difficult times here and at Lyon," said the Rennes coach.

He confirms his regularity and more often scores important goals.

Often criticized for his lack of confidence and consistency, Martin Terrier appears transformed this season, radiating in the game beyond simple statistics.

"He has become aware of his potential, which he now fully expresses, and he has also gained in maturity", emphasizes Bruno Genesio.

Martin Terrier also recognizes that he has "turned a corner" and that his "contribution to the game is better than at the start of the season".

He thinks "a little bit" of the France team

At 25, the Rennes striker is having, by far, his most prolific season of his young career.

What give him a glimpse of a future in the France team?

"It's not for me to judge," he replies.

But I think about it a little bit even if there are a lot of quality players in my position.

Bruno Genesio also believes in a blue future for his striker.

“He has the potential and he can hope, maybe one day, to be part of the pre-selection or the selection”, he assures.
