Rovanperä has impressed a lot throughout the rally and had a lead of just over 19 seconds before the day.

Rain has made it extremely difficult to drive during the initial days and a change of weather tossed in the results list again today.

After two of the day's four distances, Rovanperä had extended his lead to 28.4 seconds, but then came an unexpected rain that made it real for the 21-year-old.

This morning, Kalle chose to provide service by renting hard tires and only two rain tires, calculated that there would be no rain.

Jackpot for Tänak

The closest competitor Ott Tänak had better luck with the information from the weather team and brought four soft tires and two rain tires.

A choice that became a "jackpot" when the rain came on the third leg of the day.

The world champion from 2019 then took in, a phenomenal 28.4 seconds on the distance over 24.4 kilometers.

Think of a new leader with a 1.4 second margin to Rovanperä with a distance left to drive.

Rovanperä was given a chance to change things around.

- Not with these tires!

I do not know where this weather is coming from.

We had no idea that it would rain, I can not match him (Tänak) with hard tires, says Rovanperä.

Dry or wet precipitates decisively

Shortly after section 19 was completed, pictures came from the last section of the day and where the sun is shining and the section looks dry.

So the rally is definitely not decided.

The drivers do not have the opportunity to change to new tires before the decision, but may work with the tires they have with them this morning.

- It's just how exciting you want it to be.

In a way, Kalle deserves the victory that has been in the lead since the start.

But at the same time, the tire strategy has always been in focus and it is important that everyone does everything right in a team and of course that chances sometimes go home.

Which it did this morning for Tänak and Hyundai.

Not driven for Rovanperä

- But with the sun now on the last stretch, it is open again in the pursuit of victory and the drivers really get to drive again.

The weather is empty, perhaps to Kalle's advantage, with the hard tires that are suitable for dry surfaces, says SVT's expert Jonas Kruse.
