Soon beautiful people at the controls of Chelsea?

Reuters revealed Thursday, April 21, that Serena Williams and Lewis Hamilton have agreed to participate in the takeover bid for English football club Chelsea prepared by businessman Martin Broughton.

The American, former world tennis number one, and the Briton, seven-time Formula 1 world champion, are ready to invest 10 million pounds each (12 million euros).

Serena Williams already owns shares in Angel City FC, a women's football club in Los Angeles.

The consortium led by Martin Broughton, former president of the Liverpool club, already brings together several investors, including Sebastian Coe, president of World Athletics, the International Athletics Federation, or private equity specialists such as Josh Harris and David Blitzer, owners of several sports franchises, including the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team.

Reigning European champions Chelsea were put up for sale by owner Roman Abramovich following Russia's military offensive in Ukraine, but before the Russian businessman was himself even added to the list of personalities targeted by British sanctions because of this invasion.

Final takeover offers were submitted this month.

A total of six offers were submitted.

Other known takeover candidates include Todd Boehly, one of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball franchise owners, and Steve Pagliuca, co-owner of the Boston Celtics basketball team.
