• Balance The worst month of March for the sale of cars in this century, discounted 2020

  • Diesel Market, over 15 years old and mileurista the best-selling used car

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for automobiles stood at 5% during March in the interannual rate, which is the highest figure since March 1996, when it rose to 7%, according to the National Institute of Statistics.

That strong rise is in line with the headline CPI, which shot up 9.8%

year- on-year, reaching its highest value since May 1985, while the month-on-month figure rose 3% from the previous month.

The situation is almost a carbon copy of what already happened in February.

Sources from the sector explained to Europa Press that the increase in the price of automobiles is

in line with the rise in the price of raw materials and is also justified by the shortage of product supply, caused by the crisis in the supply of semiconductors,

which has led to a rise in prices for both new and used models.

Cars, both new and second-hand, became more expensive in Spain by 0.6% in the month-on-month comparison,

while during the first three months of the current year the increase stood at 3.7%.

Motorcycles are also expensive

In the case of

new cars, the year-on-year price increase in March was 5.3%, the highest figure since data for this subgroup was released (2018),

while it increased four tenths compared to the previous month.

Used cars, on their side, also became 4.1% more expensive in comparison with the same month of the previous year and 1.1% compared to February.

For their part,

motorcycles also saw their price rise in March to levels of almost twenty years ago, since they increased their year-on-year rate by 4.5%, the highest figure since April 2003,

when it increased by 5.4%, while the rise compared to February was 1.2% and 2.8% so far in 2022.

Repairs and maintenance

Likewise,

spare parts and accessories for vehicles experienced a 5.7% increase

in their price compared to the same month last year, 0.8% compared to February and 2.4% since the beginning of 2022. In addition, fuel prices shot up by 40.2% year-on-year, 14.9% month-on-month and 25% accumulated in the year.

Finally,

vehicle maintenance and repair services

also became more expensive, although to a lesser extent than automobiles and other groups in the sector, with

a progression of 3.1%

compared to March 2021, six tenths in the variation monthly and 1.5 points so far this year.
