A new discipleship test was conducted for sumo wrestlers, and Mr. Hodaka Suyama, who was the first wrestler from the University of Tokyo to become a sumo wrestler, was tested.

At the sumo wrestler, a new discipleship test was conducted six times a year before the main place as a sumo wrestler, and the test was conducted at the Kokugikan in Tokyo and Ryogoku on the 15th before the summer place next month.



Participants in the new discipleship test underwent physical measurements to see if they met the criteria of height of 1 meter 67 cm or more and weight of 67 kg or more.



Of these, Mr. Suyama, who is aiming to become the first sumo wrestler from the University of Tokyo, was 24 years old from Fujimino City, Saitama Prefecture, and started sumo wrestling at university and served as captain in the sumo club.



The body measurement on the 15th was 1 meter 80 cm tall and weighed 104 kg, both exceeding the standard.



Mr. Suyama said, "I feel like it's about to start. I couldn't practice much at university because of the new coronavirus, so I decided to go to sumo wrestling because I wanted to be stronger. My type of sumo wrestling hasn't been decided yet. So I want to polish something from now on. "



Mr. Suyama will enter the Kise stable on the 13th and will go to college from the sumo room in preparation for graduating from college.



Successful applicants for the new discipleship test will be announced on the 8th of next month, the first day of the summer.
