Death threats against the Bayern coach and his mother because of "Farewell to the Champions"

Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann announced today that he has received death threats on social media after the sudden elimination of the Bavarians from the Champions League against Villarreal on Tuesday.

"I know I will always receive criticism from all sides, this is normal and I can deal with it. But with 450 death threats on Instagram, it is not that easy," Nagelsmann said two days before Bayern Munich's match against Armenia Bielefeld in the league on Sunday.

"If people want to kill me, that's one thing, but they also attack and threaten my mother, who doesn't even care about football," he added.

"I don't get it. Once the TV is off, people forget all manners. They think they're right, that's the crazy thing."

When asked if he had considered legal action, Nagelsmann said there were simply too many threats to be realistic.

"I will never finish it. I get them after every game regardless of whether we win or lose. There are more death threats when we play with three or four defenders, and obviously there are less threats when we lose."

Nagelsmann is the second Bayern employee to face death threats this week.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the wife and son of Bosnian sports director Hasan Salihamidzic revealed that they had been threatened in the wake of Villarreal's defeat, and posted screenshots of private messages on Instagram.
