American family withdraws bid to buy Chelsea Football Club

The alliance led by the American Ricketts family, which owns the American baseball team, the Chicago Cubs, withdrew its bid to buy Chelsea Football Club.

The Ricketts family and its alliance partners decided not to make a final bid for Chelsea, as it emerged that the members of the alliance were unable to reach an agreement on the final composition of their bid, British news agency BA Media reported.

Tom and Laura Ricketts teamed up with American billionaires Ken Griffin and Dan Gilbert in a bid to buy Chelsea.

Final bids were supposed to be made on Thursday, but the Ricketts-led coalition withdrew its bid.

"In the process of finalizing the proposed offer, it was increasingly clear that some problems could not be resolved given the unusual dynamics around the sale," he added.

"We have great admiration for Chelsea and their fans, and we wish the new owners success."
