In mid-March, the board of Borås Basket announced that they would say no to the women's league next season.

This is due to the lack of the right conditions and resources for the women's team.

Instead of Borås Basket, the women's team will now represent the newly formed association Sjuhärad's Basketball Association, which hopes to be able to take the former association's place in the women's top team in Swedish basketball.

- We believe that it is the right way to have two associations with two separate boards that work with stakeholders with separate strategies.

It will be easier to distribute the resources when you sit in your own association with your own board, says Maria Wiliand who has resigned from Borås Basket board and is the new chairman of Sjuhärad's Basketball Association's interim board.

She also says that the union has been positive in the process.

- The union wants the team to remain in SBL.

They have been positive and patient and will stand up to solve it, says Wiland.

Applying for an exemption

That associations take over other people's places in the basketball league has happened before when, for example, Solna Basket became AIK.

- It will be an exemption application for the new association, which we basically see as positive that they should be able to keep a team in the league.

We have seen over the years that it is very difficult to run two elite teams in the same association, historically this is a more winning concept, says Olle Lundén.

Sjuhärad's Basketball Association will now present a proposal for a structure to the Swedish Basketball Association's board, which will then make a decision on the matter.

"Good news"

SVT sports expert Nick Rajacic views the news positively and hopes that it can be an inspiration to associations that have had difficulty conducting elite activities.

Good news.

It is very big and important for basketball and women's sports in general.

They received a lot of support and I think that gave them a lot of energy to continue working hard and try to find a new solution.

Everyone wins on this.

For a club like Helsingborg, which also withdrew, it may mean that they are considering whether they could have done something different to solve the situation, says Rajacic.
