Bayern coach ready for criticism after shocking Champions League exit

Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann will be ready to be criticized after Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final exit against Villarreal, while he will also try to make up for it somewhat by leading his club to the Bundesliga title.

Bayern unexpectedly lost 2-1 to the Spanish team in the aggregate, after the 1-1 draw in Munich yesterday, and now they have nothing left but to try to win the domestic league title.

"I really don't know what will happen to me, but when we lose and go out, it is a candidate to happen," said Nagelsmann, who is spending his first season at Bayern.

"I'm not afraid of that. There are a lot worse things than that," he added.

The 34-year-old, whose team was knocked out in the second round of the German Cup this season, will try to raise the morale of his players before facing Armenia Bielefeld on Sunday.

Bayern leads the league by nine points with five rounds remaining, and will be on the cusp of winning the title if it wins at Bielefeld.

Bayern will also be busy thinking about the summer transfer period with the expected departure of several prominent players, including striker Robert Lewandowski.

Nevertheless, the most important priority will be to try to finish the season strongly, especially after the shaky performances in the last five league matches, during which he drew twice and won 1-0 with difficulty over Augsburg in the last round.

"I will continue my work and prepare for the league. The team has enough experience to deal with both the good and the bad moments. We win together and we lose together, and we have to play the next matches together," the young coach said.

"Of course, a large part of the motivation we have is gone after the Champions League exit," he added.
