Due to discriminatory failures of its fans in the Champions League first leg, the Spanish football club Atlético Madrid has to close a stadium section in the quarter-final second leg against Manchester City on Wednesday (9 p.m. in the FAZ live ticker for the Champions League and on DAZN).

At least 5,000 seats must remain empty in the Wanda Metropolitano stadium, the European Football Union (UEFA) demanded in a statement on Monday following a decision by its Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body.

In addition, Atlético must display a banner with the words "#NoToRacism" with the UEFA logo in the arena.

Madrid fans were noticed in the first leg last Tuesday through discriminatory actions and threw objects onto the field.

Premier League leaders Man City won the first duel 1-0 through a goal by Belgian Kevin De Bruyne in the 70th minute.
