Golf superstar Tiger Woods was celebrated by hundreds of fans 14 months after his serious car accident when he made his comeback at the Masters in Augusta.

The 46-year-old Californian came to the first tee of the Augusta National Golf Club on Thursday at 5:04 p.m. (CEST) to thunderous cheers in a pink shirt and black pants.

The 15-time Major winner's first shot landed on the right side of the first fairway fairway.

The comeback announcement of Woods, who feared the loss of his multiple fractured leg after the February 2021 accident south of Los Angeles, had the golfing world in ecstasy and eclipsed everything else about the 86th Masters.

Even if Woods answered the question of whether he was capable of winning the Masters again with a clear "Yes, I do", the superstar is not one of the favorites after the long break.

25 years ago, Woods made golf history at the Masters with his first major win.

In 1997, he won his first of five Masters titles by a record twelve shots.

Also in 2001, 2002 and 2005 the US star was allowed to put on the green winner's jacket.

Title number five followed in 2019.

After a long period of suffering with personal low points, injuries and numerous operations, it was one of the greatest and most emotional comebacks in sports history.

His last official PGA tournament was the Masters in November 2020, which was not held on the usual date in spring that year due to the corona pandemic.
