The last time Sweden arranged a major women's championship in football was the European Championships in 2013. Twelve years later, it may be time again.

Today, the Swedish Football Association announced that together with Norway, Denmark and Finland and with support from the Faroe Islands and Iceland, a preliminary application has been submitted to arrange the European Football Championship 2025. A final application must be submitted in October.

- It sounds very cool.

It is clear that it is incredibly powerful to play as a national team at home, says striker Rebecka Blomqvist.

"Now it may be possible"

The big star Fridolina Rolfö was 19 years old when the European Championships were last played in Sweden.

Then she was not relevant for the Swedish squad, she will probably be in three years.

- When I read that the Nordic countries want a European Championship, you get incredibly happy.

I remember when I sat and watched the home European Championships and then they thought that you will never get to experience a championship at home.

Now it can be possible and it will be completely unique, says Fridolina Rolfö.

Do you think that our arenas measure up?

- Yes, if we play in the biggest arenas.

The advantage of the Nordics is that there are many arenas.

It is said that the largest arenas will be used, so I hope it will be so, she says.

If this becomes a reality, matches will be played in Sweden at Tele 2 arena in Stockholm and at Gamla Ullevi in Gothenburg.

The final will be played at Friends arena.
