Koeman returns to coach Netherlands national team after Van Gaal

Ronald Koeman returns to the position of coach of the Netherlands national team after the end of the 2022 World Cup, to succeed the current coach, Louis van Gaal.

"I am proud to announce that I will coach the national team again after the World Cup," Koeman wrote on his Twitter account.

Koeman, 59, coached the Dutch national team between 2018 and 2020, then left his position to coach Barcelona, but he stayed with the Catalan club for one season in light of the financial crises that the team suffered.

The Dutch Football Association announced today, Wednesday, that the new contract for Koeman will run until 2026.

Van Gaal, 70, told Dutch television last Sunday that he had been receiving treatment for prostate cancer, but that he intended to remain in his post for the time being.

The Netherlands will play in Group A along with Qatar, the organizing country, African champions Senegal and Ecuador, during the World Cup, which will be held from November 21 to December 18.
