Shin Jae-hwan, a gymnast who tried to compete in the national team competition without receiving any disciplinary action after committing a drunken assault, eventually withdrew.
Shin Jae-hwan's team, Jecheon City Hall, said, "I decided not to participate in the Asian Games selection because I decided that it was necessary to take time for self-reflection as it caused a scandal over an unfortunate incident."
Shin Jae-hwan, who caused a scandal by drinking and assaulting a taxi driver four months ago, seems to have decided to abstain from harsh criticism while trying to force himself to compete without receiving any disciplinary action from the association.
The Chungbuk Gymnastics Association, which aggravated the situation by failing to discipline Shin Jae-hwan, is not responding.
