Basketball star Jonas Jerebko chose to chalk up for CSKA Moscow, in the middle of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Tre Kronor goes to training camp and will play matches next week.

The question of whether Swedes who play in the KHL, the Russian league, should be selected in the national team has been discussed within Tre Kronor.

- Players who have contracts and play in the KHL we see as all other players, they have entered into their agreements before the war broke out.

For us, they are available for games, says national team manager Olof Östblom to SVT Sport.

- We have of course discussed the issue, but they signed their agreements when it was a different situation in the world, we have had a lot of discussions, he says.

"A wise decision"

Östblom and the ice hockey association support the national basketball team's decision to exclude Jonas Jerebko.

- We think that basketball has made a wise decision and we should have the same approach, but it is under the conditions that apply now, hopefully this will change for the better, then you always have to make new trade-offs.

- Right now it would be very difficult to take out a player who signed a new contract with a KHL team.

So would a Swedish player sign for a Russian club right now, does that mean that the player is not relevant for the national team then?

- You can of course look at every situation, but spontaneously, no, then they would not be relevant for the national team.
