When SVT Sport visits BK Häcken in mid-March, the grinding dust has barely settled.

But this Easter, if everything meets the schedule, the new facilities will be inaugurated.

The clubhouse will be about twice as big and the goal is to create the same standard for the ladies that is already on the men's side. 

- From next month, we will have operations on equal terms in the same building.

Our idea is that there should be a proximity for the younger players: boys 'and men's academies on one wing, girls' and women's academies on the other wing.

It will be exactly the same, says Martin Ericsson.  

BK Häcken's women's team history is known by now.

In November 2020, the team, then called Göteborg FC, won Swedish Championship gold only to be dissolved just a few weeks later when the club board decided to close down the elite operations. 

The same conditions at all levels

But in January 2021, the reigning champion team was taken over by BK Häcken.

And today there are two elite teams, women and men, under the same roof at Hisingen.

- It must be the same conditions.

Everything from when you train to what is around: the diet, the staff and everything else that can have a big impact on your development.

I think like this: the women's players in BK Häcken, there are probably few men's players in Scandinavia who will have those conditions, says Ericsson with some pride in his voice.  

In an interview with SVT Sport on Friday, the team's new acquisition, internationally qualified Norwegian Andrine Hegerberg, praised Häcken's commitment to equal conditions for women and men.

"We must get better at everything"

But where does the money come from?

Martin Ericsson explains that the investment is not made directly with own money.

The club pays an annual rent to the landowner, who in turn bears the construction costs.

But the investment still brings with it new demands, both financial and sporting.

- We know, of course, that if you want to move forward and expand, you have to dare.

And of course, growing is not free.

So we have to get better at everything.

We need to get better results and get better players that we can sell so we can get more sales.
