He will remain as the most expensive recruit in the history of FC Nantes.

And probably also as one of his most painful failures.

Anthony Limbombe, 27, is leaving the Nantes club for good from this Monday, announced the management of the FCN in a press release.

The two parties have decided, "by mutual agreement", to terminate the attacking midfielder's contract.

Bought 8 million euros from FC Bruges in the summer of 2018 through the sulphurous agent Mogi Bayat, the Belgian international, announced to be very promising, never really lived up to expectations despite three goals (including a sumptuous kick- franc against Lyon) and two assists in the first season.

He tried to relaunch on loan at Standard Liège the following season and then quickly returned to Nantes where he went through a series of injuries before being dropped from the group at the request of coach Antoine Kombouaré.

A conflict to end

Under contract until 2023, the young man had seized the Legal Committee of the Professional Football League (LFP) in recent weeks to demand the same training conditions as his teammates.

He finally won his case last week.

In three and a half years, Anthony Limbombe will therefore have played 38 games and scored four goals for the clubs on the banks of the Erdre.

"FC Nantes wishes Anthony a good continuation for the rest of his career," he said in the fall of his press release.
