It was on Thursday that Lise Klaveness stepped up on the podium during Fifa's congress in Qatar's capital Doha.

She then came with harsh criticism against, among others, Fifa but also the treatment of migrant workers who have built the arenas.

- There is no room for employers who can not ensure freedom and security for workers.

No room for leaders who can not host women's football.

There is no room for leaders who can not legally guarantee the safety of LGBTQ + people, she said.

After Klaveness' speech, Al Thawadi stepped up to the podium and then expressed disappointment.

He said Klaveness had not asked for a meeting or for a dialogue before the congress.

Klaveness herself says that she has had a lot of dialogue with the organizing committee and Al Thawadi himself.

After the speech, Klaveness and Al Thawadi had contact.

- He wanted to talk about this.

He expressed that he thought it was disappointing.

I said that our intention was not to criticize his organization, but the issue, and to have good ethical reflections in football in the future.

But he perceived it as sweeping criticism of the organizing committee, says Klaveness to NRK.

"Wanted to convey a message"

Klaveness' speech created reactions around the world and she believes that it is important to keep the debate public.

She is now back in Norway after the trip to Doha.

- We went there to convey a message from our members that was both clear and at the same time balancing.

Then others get to evaluate if we met right, she says.
