When Eve Gascon made her debut for Gatineau earlier in March, she became the third woman to play in the QMJHL, one of the three major Canadian junior ice hockey leagues, and the first in over 20 years to do so.

Before tonight's match against Drummondville, she had stood two matches and lost both.

But now came the first victory.

Gascon saved 23 shots as Gatineau won 7-3.

She was named the match's lyre player and when she then entered the locker room, a great cheer erupted among her male teammates.

Eve Gascon is seen as a great talent and maybe she can follow in the same footsteps as goalkeepers Manon Rhéaume and Charline Labonté, who were the two previous female players in the QMJHL.

Both had long and successful careers.

Rhéaume won two World Cup golds with Canada and became historic when she auditioned for the NHL team Tampa Bay Lightning in 1992.

She made two preseason appearances for the club.

Labonté in turn won three Olympic gold medals with Canada.
