He added: "My heart is broken. I don't know how I will be able to overcome this failure with the national team that I love so much. When I remember what happened, the first feeling that I had is great sadness, sadness for you. I am well aware of the support you give us, whether through messages or moving to the stadium, Your great support has not been rewarded, I am very disappointed."

He continued, "Unfortunately, it is like this, and for us, we must return to the club and resume our lives, and little by little we will overcome what happened. It is God's destiny, we will say praise be to God and we will progress."

And he added: "I was hoping to do the best and give you what you were expecting from us. I am aware of what qualifying for the World Cup was for us and for you, as the leader, it is my duty to also assume my responsibilities when things go to the worst, and that is why I preferred to communicate with you today."

Mahrez admitted that he was affected by some of the comments in which the owners challenged his loyalty to the national team shirt and questioned his commitment to defending him, refusing at the same time the comparison between his club and his country.

Mahrez went on to say: "Know that playing for my country is a great pride for me. For 8 years I have carried this shirt and this flag in all parts of the world, and if I do not know what the future will carry, I know that Algeria is in my heart and will remain forever."
