Despite a burning war, in which Russia invaded Ukraine, Jonas Jerebko chose to sign for the Russian big club CSKA Moscow.

Reactions have been strong since the news came out on Wednesday.

- I certainly would not have done so, I would have chosen another league.

It does not feel right to go to Russia, most of the others have left.

For me, it is not a good decision that Jonas has made, says Frida Eldebrink to SVT Sport.

Frida Eldebrink is one of Sweden's foremost basketball players on the women's side and was one of the main players in the national team before she ended her national team career in the summer of 2021.

The 34-year-old, who plays in Spanish Girona, has himself noticed the reactions since Jerebko's club choice became known.

- I have had several in my club and around who asked and talked about this.

This is great news in Basketball Europe, no one has gone unnoticed, she says.

"Not reason enough"

What do you think this means for Swedish basketball?

- Now this is an individual player and the association has had its say and they are not behind it.

I do not know what it means for Swedish basketball but for Jonas himself it does not look good.

Jerebko was clubless for just over a year before signing for CSKA Moscow.

Eldebrink, who himself has been in that situation, does not think there is enough reason to go to the Russian league.

- I understand the mindset itself because I myself have been in such a situation, you want to play and feel in shape for a qualifier.

But there are other clubs and other leagues that he could have gone to instead of going to Russia.

This is where I have a hard time understanding why he has chosen to go to a Russian club in this situation.

Do you think money comes into play?

- I do not want to comment on it at all.
