The Swedish former Rosengård trio Nathalie Björn, Anna Anvegård and Hanna Bennison all three went to Everton in the summer window last year.

But five rounds into the season, the coach who recruited them, Willie Kirk, was fired.

Something that surprised many.

Also the English football journalist Tom Garry who covers the Women's Super League for the newspaper The Telegraph.

- I thought it was an overreaction.

Everton invested heavily in the summer window and recruited nine players.

When you bring in so many new players, it takes longer than a summer to play together.

But that patience did not exist at Everton, so instead a hasty decision was made very early in the season, he says.

Additional coaches fired: "Never happened before"

In came French former Lyon coach Jean-Luc Vasseur.

But after ten rounds, he met the same fate and was fired after only 95 days in the post.

- Jean-Luc Vasseur was not popular with the players, there were many who did not like his coaching style.

So that Everton are now looking for a third coach in one and the same season, it has never happened before in the league's history, says Tom Garry.

The women's team in England is part of the same club structure as the men's team, which means that the same owners and investors behind the teams in the Premier League now also have interests in women's football.

And as the Women's Super League has progressed, the rich club owners have invested more money in their women's teams, as in the case of Everton.

A mentality that can become increasingly common

Can it make a mentality from men's football find its way into women's football?

- I think so.

On the men's side, it often happens that a coach is fired if the team does badly.

Now it is becoming more common on the women's side as well.

I think this is something we will see more and more often, says Tom Garry.

Everton are currently temporarily led by assistant coach Chris Roberts.

The team has continued to have a hard time winning matches, even though they recently broke the negative trend with three straight victories.

Ten Swedish players in the Women's Super League

But despite the turbulent first half year as a foreign professional, Swedish defender Nathalie Björn does not regret that she went to Everton.

- It has really been a roller coaster.

But regardless of whether it has been chaotic all around, we are a good group with many good players.

Now it sounds like I'm just saying that, but I actually have no doubt, she says.

The Women's Super League, the ladies' top team in England, has emerged as the hottest option among blue-yellow players: there are currently ten national team players from Sweden, spread over five different clubs.

- Playing here gives everyone the opportunity to become the best in the world and meet world-class players, such as Sam Kerr (Chelsea) and Vivianne Miedema (Arsenal).

The English league is very even, I chose Everton because I knew that here I will be able to develop a lot, says Nathalie Björn.
