Sweden played double matches during yesterday's basic series round in the curling WC.

The tournament, which is played in British Columbia in Canada, entered its fourth day of play and team Anna Hasselborg started the day by defeating Italy 6-2.

Tougher resistance awaited last night, Swedish time.

Japan had four victories and two losses before the meeting against Sweden.

After two scoreless rounds, Sweden snatched a 2-0 lead in the third before the Japanese managed to reduce in the fourth round.

The Swedes got one point in round five and Japan countered by taking one in round six.

In the seventh and eighth rounds, respectively, team Anna Hasselborg really put their foot down with 2-0 victories in both rounds and the match was basically decided.

Japan certainly looked at the numbers in round nine before Sweden nailed the final result to 8-4 in the tenth and final round.

Sweden now has a top two spot, which means direct qualification for the semifinals.

Only South Korea and Switzerland are ahead of the table.

This afternoon, Swedish time, Sweden will face the host nation Canada before meeting South Korea later in the night.

The match against Canada will be broadcast on SVT Play at 17.00.
