Danish handball player Mikkel Hansen, one of the best players on the planet, was forced to end his season with Paris SG due to phlebitis coupled with a pulmonary embolism, the Parisian club announced on Tuesday.

Operated in Denmark for a cartilage problem last week, Mikkel Hansen "contracted phlebitis of the lower limb, coupled with a pulmonary embolism", explained the club, specifying that the player was "out of danger" and that he was going follow for 4 to 6 months a treatment based on anticoagulants which is "not compatible with a high level contact sport".

Mikkel Hansen, who has been named the best player in the world three times (2011, 2015 and 2018) by the International Federation (IHF), will no longer wear the jersey of PSG, the club he joined in 2012 and where he plays. for ten seasons, since he signed up from next season for the Danish club Aalborg.

Eight days ago, the 34-year-old player underwent surgery "to treat a cartilage problem in his right knee which he had been suffering from for several weeks" and to "clean his joint", explained the capital club in its release Tuesday evening.

It was on his return to France for his rehabilitation within the PSG, and the "immediate aftermath" of his operation, that "Mikki" contracted phlebitis, coupled with a pulmonary embolism.

The Dane "will carry out his rehabilitation within the club's facilities", added PSG, which "gives him all its support for this long period of convalescence".
