• Baptiste is a law student and decided last October to participate in the Paris 2022 marathon, accompanied by his uncle.

  • Before embarking on this project, his routine revolved around classes and drunken evenings with his friends.

At 26, the importance of having a healthier life jumped out at him and he started running.

  • On April 3, Baptiste wants above all to reach the finish line but he still hopes to finish this race in 3h45.

No one believed in it and that motivated him.

Around a coffee in his neighborhood in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, Baptiste, a law student, humorously talks about his decision in the midst of a "hangover" to participate in the 2022 Paris marathon. "I didn't believe it when he broke the news to us,” recalls Thomas, his best friend.

Indeed, sport has never been one of his priorities, his entourage therefore had difficulty believing it.

Parties, music, law school and travel came to the fore, Baptiste admits.

"I like to enjoy, it makes me laugh when people say I'm a party animal.

»

During this time, a regular at the café comes to interrupt him and asks him for details about his studies.

"I work on intellectual property rights, don't hesitate if you need me one day," Baptiste replies while slipping a comment on his participation in the marathon.

The customer laughs, even he seems surprised, but this reaction amuses the 26-year-old student who is used to not being taken seriously.

“We are used to Baptiste embarking on projects that do not succeed, but as soon as he registered for the Paris marathon, I understood that he was really going to participate,” explains Thomas.

A family tradition

This year, Baptiste is dividing his time between the Bar School and his sports training.

In complete autonomy, he started a Decathlon program in October which pushes him to keep a routine.

“I train four times a week, he says, it can go from an hour of running, so 12 km, to interval training or a long outing of 2h30.

» Today, he is proud to explain his journey because initially running 7 km was difficult for him.

His friend Thomas testifies to this: “Baptist was not originally a great sportsman but he is very active.

»

Running the Paris marathon also plunges the future lawyer back into his childhood memories: "it was a tradition in my family to go see my grandfather running, since he died, it has stopped a bit .

" Juliette, her little sister, was too young during these family meetings but she remembers that her grandfather was: " the road from Orthez (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) with his three sons for the weekend of the marathon.

Baptiste's uncle also used to take part in this event, so he decided to accompany him in his project and even pushed him to register with a time limit not to be exceeded.

The idea frightened him at first, he recalls.

“I'm a dreamer, I wasn't aware of the difficulty, I just wanted to finish the race and not set myself a time.

»

It's not a marathon that will prevent Baptiste from going out.

For him, mixing parties, a job that interests him and sport, is important.

At 26, he still questions the idea of partying “in an extreme way”, he specifies.

He now wants to limit his outings in order to have a healthier life without however preventing himself from enjoying with his friends.

"He continues to have parties but he has really calmed down this month", specifies Thomas, because despite the friendly atmosphere of the race which awaits him, the young reveler is now aware of the difficulty of such a race.

Baptiste has already participated in the Paris half-marathon on March 6 and beat his time goal.

Achieving his time in the Paris marathon is therefore close to his heart even if he adds: “as long as I finish this race I will be happy.
