• The Girondins de Bordeaux welcome this Sunday (1 p.m.) Montpellier during the 29th day of Ligue 1.

  • Bordeaux supporters continue to mobilize every weekend.

They want to believe in it despite a team that has given them almost nothing in return since the start of the season.

  • 20 Minutes

decided to collect several testimonies to understand their position and also give them a voice in the face, sometimes, of criticism.

It is "unfortunately" the only great pride of the Girondins de Bordeaux for several seasons: its supporters.

Unfortunately, because these thousands of people still ready every weekend to go to Matmut Atlantique to encourage the Navy and Whites would especially like to be proud of their players, their team, their club.

Since the takeover of the club by the Americans in 2018, it is the abyss even if the relations with the new management are appeased today.

🔴⚽️ The @girondins are seriously starting to have the client's head

While the Girondins de Bordeaux are on the verge of relegation when they host Montpellier this Sunday (1 p.m.), the supporters are therefore the only ones to have stayed the course behind the Ultramarines, the largest group of Bordeaux supporters.

They were still more than 1,000 last weekend at the Parc des Princes to close ranks behind a team once again scattered like a puzzle on the lawn (0-3).

They don't give up despite the performance of their team for several months: Bordeaux has this season the 7th highest attendance in Ligue 1 (24,903 spectators on average per match).

So are they sadomasos, and particularly the 12,572 subscribers, most of whom are present at every home game?

If they don't believe it...

For that, we must of course turn to the interested parties.

And above all, listen to them to understand.

  • Thibaud: “Personally, I continue to support the club, the institution.

The players are only the servants of this institution.

When I sing, it's "to the glory of the Girondins" as the song says very well.

I do the job because I have this club rooted in me.

I don't want him to die and because I could look at myself in the mirror and tell myself that personally I did everything at my little level to keep this club in L1.

    »

  • Arnaud: “I am optimistic by nature.

I am therefore one of the people who think that as long as we are not mathematically in L2, we must put all the chances on our side to try to cause this psychological shock which will finally make us win matches.

There were nevertheless important decisions by the leaders which made us believe in a better tomorrow and which kept us in suspense: the change of coach, a quality transfer window…”

  • Emeline: “I always go to the stadium because I have loved this club for more than thirty years, attached to the FCGB entity, which made me experience emotions that only passion for a club can generate.

Because if we don't do the job, who will?

We are the FCGB, we were there before, are here during and will always be here afterwards.

    »

  • Romain: “Being a supporter also means being a supporter in bad times, and we all know that there is no worse time than this.

If they don't believe in it, or no longer, we do, and these two media, the stadium and the Internet (it manages the Girondins4Ever supporters' site), are means of confronting the players with reality.

    »

  • Ange: “I haven't missed a game for eight years and going to the stadium has become almost a reflex.

As a club enthusiast, I have to go to the stadium whether it's for the good times (which I've already experienced) or for the bad ones that we are experiencing.

I would most certainly go to the stadium even in the event of a descent to L2 or lower…”

Business operations that work

For the moment, there is therefore no question of letting go.

The club management gives back.

It multiplies special operations (stadium at 9 euros, lower prices at the end of the season, setting up a bus network) to maintain this flame.

And it works since we had never seen the Matmut Atlantique so full for certain posters (41,000 spectators against Paris, 39,000 against Nantes and Lille or 29,000 against Monaco).

All this while the Girondins are sporting one of the worst seasons in their history.

In this context, there are of course more critical voices.

Some are even torn on social networks around the attitude to adopt vis-Ă -vis the players.

We had to wait for the 27th day and a pitiful defeat against Troyes to wait for the first real bronca.

So are the Bordeaux supporters too patient?

  • Romain: “We could discuss how each other does things, but frankly, we tried almost everything with them.

The speeches after Paris were lunar and surreal.

    But what to do ?

They say that whistling players or yelling at them doesn't make them run faster, and I pretty much agree with that.

You have to try to find the middle ground.

On the other hand, responsibilities will have to be given at the end, no matter how the story ends.

    »

  • Ange: “I clearly think that we have surely idolized them too much… For my part, I always make a few trips or I go to the stadium in Bordeaux but I have not applauded when players enter for a few games.

I make an act of presence but the previous performances do not make me want to applaud for a few months… ”

  • Emeline: “What does it mean to be too nice?

Is it going down to the field, rocking the training camp, tagging the walls of Haillan… What would be the point of it apart from putting the club in even more debt?

    »

  • Arnaud: “Apart from the last two games where I found that the players had not had a professional attitude, I found until now certain reasons for satisfaction, seeing certain improvements which allowed me to believe in it.

On the other hand, since the match against Monaco, I am much more pessimistic.

    »

  • Thibaud: “I can hear the refrain from some about the attitude of the Ultras towards the club or the players.

But what would these people want?

    Let's go destroy cars?

    Physically attack the players?

    Degrade Le Haillan?

    I am against such actions.

Firstly because it totally discredits the supporters and then because it brings grist to the mill for those who argue all the time that "supporter = violent".

If we fall, it will be time to hold the players and those who direct us to account, and even if we stay in L1 for that matter.

For the moment, there are ten games left to save ourselves and more than ever we must remain united behind our club.
