It has been over three years since Sälen skier William Mathisen made his debut in the World Cup.

Today, in the Czech Spindleruv, the first podium place finally came, when he finished second.

- I've said all this season that it's only a matter of time before Wille is up there fighting with the big boys, and today was the day.

He had a very good plan and it lasted all the way.

It was so damn good, I am very happy for his sake today, says national team captain Joakim Hammar in a press release.

Higher points in the second run

Mathisen was noted for 82.25 points in the first run, and was second then.

In the second race he added half a lap to the last jump, which then became a backside triple in 1620 and got 86.75 points, which meant that he was in first place when only Tiarn Collins from New Zealand was left as a competitor.

However, he stood the test of time and finished 3.5 points ahead of Mathisen.

- I have been waiting for this for a long time and now it had to happen.

I'm very happy but I really do not feel any difference, a little extra happy maybe, says Mathisen.

The other Swede in the competition, Sven Thorgren, finished in 13th place.
