The television station BFMTV reports that the crime happened in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Two groups of people had a verbal argument in a bar before they got physical.

After that, they were separated by the bouncers, but later one of the groups came back in a car and fired shots that hit Federico Martín Aramburú multiple times, resulting in his death.

Aramburú is a 22-time Argentina international who played for Biarritz, Perpignan and Dax, among others, in the early 2000s.

The last time he played for the Pumas was in 2009, and he was also there at the 2007 World Cup.

“We have learned that Federico Martín Aramburú has passed away under tragic circumstances.

The entire BOPB expresses its deepest sympathy to his family and loved ones and assures them of their full support,” the Biarritz club responded.

USAP, the Perpignan rugby club, also expressed their "great sadness" and "their deepest condolences" to the player's family.
