Lia Thomas was born in 1999 as a man - but is now a historic winner as a woman in 2022.

Now the college athlete is America's most talked about sports personality.

23-year-old Thomas competed for the men's team in Pennsylvania State for three years before the change to the women's team where she broke several records and now tonight became the first trans athlete to win at the highest college level - an NCAA championship.

The case is much debated in the United States.

In several states, bills have been introduced to stop athletes born as men from competing against women.

Former tennis star Martina Navratilova is upset.

- It's not about excluding trans people from ever winning.

But it's about not allowing them to win when they were nowhere near winning as men, the 65-year-old said in an interview with News Nation.

Sweden's World Cup third in progress, Perseus Karlström also has opinions.

"It makes me so fucking angry that sports organizations ruin women's sports.

This is just another example of how men make women's sports a mockery ", the Swede writes on social media.
