New world record by Armand Duplantis - manages 6.19 Photo: TT Nyhetsbyrån
The hunt for 6.19 is over for Armand Duplantis.
On the third and final attempt, the Swedish pole vault star struck with a giant jump in the Belgrade Indoor Meeting.
Got a hug right away
He slipped over the bar and thus broke his own world record.
In the stands sat his girlfriend Desiré Inglander, whom Duplantis ran forward and hugged immediately after the jump.
"Did not believe it"
But when SVT Sport talked to Inglander a couple of hours after the record jump, she said she had not counted on the record.
- I did not believe in it.
I was just waiting for the bar to fall down, she says, with a laugh, and continues:
- But it did not!
It was shit cool!
Why did you not believe it?
- It is clear that I always believe in him, but it is probably more that it is so unreal.
That I can join in and see something like that.
It has often felt like it should happen when I am not with.
It was awesome, really!
You who know him better than most, what do you think it means for him to finally not have to think about 6.19?
- I think he's thinking of 6.20 now, if I know him right, haha.
How are you going to celebrate now then?
- Tonight there will be dinner at the hotel with his manager.
Maybe a little frothy, he deserves it.
And some drink.
But it's still hard to take in.
New world record at the World Cup?
Many have already started talking about new world records.
And if you think Desiré Inglander, it will not be long before they get to celebrate a new world record.
- It will not be needed as many.
Maybe at the World Cup?
