The International Football Federation (FIFA) has not yet made a final decision on the play-off match of the qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar between the national teams of Russia and Poland, which is scheduled for March 24.

Such information appeared on Monday in the publication Interia Sport, citing sources familiar with the situation.

It is reported that FIFA is looking for a way to keep the participation of the domestic team in the tournament.

One of the options is the transfer of the Russia-Poland meeting and the confrontation Sweden-Czech Republic to June.

By that time, according to officials, military operations will be completed.

The Scotland-Ukraine and Wales-Austria games may also be rescheduled.

At the same time, FIFA may announce its decision as early as Tuesday.

However, there is no confirmation or refutation of this information yet.

FIFA suspended the Russian team from participation in all competitions under its auspices on February 28.

A week has passed since then, and the Polish footballers still do not know what format the play-off tournament will be in: whether Cheslav Mikhnevich's wards will have a new opponent or the team will automatically go to the final selection for the winner of the Sweden-Czech Republic meeting.

“We have no response from FIFA regarding the upcoming play-off matches in March for the right to qualify for the World Cup.

We don't know when to expect a decision.

Today we called Polish players from foreign clubs to the national team meeting,” the press service of the Polish Football Union told TASS.

It can be assumed that the first steps were taken by the Russian Football Union, which on Thursday, March 3, announced that it plans to file an appeal with the Lausanne Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

“As part of a single lawsuit against two organizations, the RFU will demand the restoration of all men's and women's national teams of Russia in all types of football in the tournaments in which they took part (including in the qualifying round of the World Cup in Qatar), as well as compensation for damage if it availability will be established,” the organization said in a statement.

At the same time, it was noted that the RFU did not provide the right to provide its position.

In addition, when making decisions, FIFA and UEFA did not take into account other possible options for action, except for the complete exclusion of participants from the competition from Russia.

According to the former general secretary of the organization Anatoly Vorobyov, everything is being done correctly, but there may not be enough time to consider the case.

“In this case, the RFU are acting absolutely correctly.

You need to stand up for your rights.

The chances are small, but they exist.

Another thing is that there is not enough time.

Play-off dates are getting closer.

Do not forget that CAS is a bureaucracy, it is unlikely that something can be achieved within two weeks.

Chances that they will have time to consider before the match against Poland, most likely, no.

But in the future, it's definitely worth doing.

League of Nations, European Cups, you have to fight for it.

Everything is done right, ”Sport24 quotes a specialist.

However, Lausanne reported on Monday that no documents from Russia had even been registered.

“At the moment, CAS has not received an appeal from the RFU regarding the decision of FIFA and UEFA to exclude Russian teams from international competitions,” the press service of the court told RIA Novosti.

However, the statement itself could have influenced the minds of officials, since the Court of Arbitration for Sport, when making decisions, focuses primarily on legal norms.

That is why CAS representative Yakub Laskovsky, unlike Vorobyov, believes that the RFU has a chance to win the case.

As the specialist explained in an interview with Sport.pl, an unusual situation has developed that does not correspond to the traditional view of FIFA or UEFA statutes.

As the head coach of the national team Valery Karpin admitted, he does not believe that there can be a positive outcome in this matter.

“There is no feeling that there will be a joint.

You read and see everything, so such questions are not relevant.

What do you think, do you need to prepare for the joints?

Well, really?

You could call it a search for hope in a hopeless situation.

Well, let's hope.

You can deceive yourself.

In my personal opinion, not the opinion of the RFU, seeing what is happening now in the world, I have very little hope, ”the specialist said.
