Dario Cologna is the 35-year-old from Switzerland who is one of the foremost championship skiers of all time.

With his four individual Olympic golds and three individual World Cup medals, he is one of the sport's greats.

Ahead of Sunday's five miles, Cologna announced on social media that the race would be his last in his career.

Framed leader: "What a crash!"

After passing 36.2 kilometers, the track turned downhill and there it narrowed for Cologna, which was then in tenth place.

- Oh, oh oh, It's "Super-Dario" in his last race of his career, says commentator Per Forsberg in Viaplay's broadcast.

- What a crash!

Has won the race before

It was the Norwegian Simen Hegstad Krüger who lost his balance and took the Swiss with him in the case.

- Krüger did a lot for Cologna, it was impossible for Cologna to avoid that.

There is some ice there, he flew right out into the woods, says Viaplay's expert Anna-Karin Strömstedt.

Cologna has been the winner of the classic race once before, four years ago.

He won after a tight sprint against Martin Johnsrud Sundby where a goal photo was required for a winner to be crowned.
