On Sunday morning, the media department of Hertha BSC sent a message that was bursting with routine, but conveyed a not insignificant insight in terms of content.

It was the weekly plan, a list of training times and press talks, and lo and behold, all dates were given with Tayfun Korkut as trainer.

That came as a surprise to one or the other observer, as various media in the capital had at least considered that Korkut could only stop by the office briefly after the 4-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt to be informed personally about his dismissal .

That was not the case, Hertha's coach will remain in office after the disastrous performance and will also look after the team in Mönchengladbach on Saturday when the Berliners have another important game against a direct competitor in the fight against relegation.

"I'm angry, I'm disappointed.

As the main person responsible, I can be zero point zero satisfied," Korkut said after the defeat against Frankfurt, the sixth in the past seven competitive games.

Fans sing: "Relegated, relegated"

So the coach wasn't the only one struggling with negative feelings.

Hertha's supporters had already presented their state of mind offensively during the game.

With songs that are part of the standard repertoire in times of crisis.

Classics like "We're fed up" and "We want to see you fight" were given just as fervently as the suggestion for a change of coach ("Korkut out").

"It's normal for me, it's part of it.

I can take it," said Korkut.

Of course it may not have been the first time in his career that parts of the audience wished him out of the stadium, some of Korkut's players were disturbed by the radical nature of the fans and their gloomy forecast for the future ("relegated, relegated").

“I found it frightening that their own fans were shouting 'relegated'.

That's not nice, and that's not the way we have to go as a club.

The fans have to push us," said Marc-Oliver Kempf into the running television cameras.

Kempf hasn't been in Berlin long, he came to the winter break from VfB Stuttgart, who is now breathing down Hertha's neck in the table.

A single point separates the Berliners from a direct relegation zone, but unlike most of their competitors, Hertha's trend is clearly negative.

In this calendar year, the team has not been able to win a game at all, and there is also the painful loss of the cup in their own stadium against city rivals Union.

Overall, Korkut have picked up just nine points from 12 games since arriving in November.

Makes an average of 0.75 per game.

Even Friedhelm Funkel was more successful in the 2009/10 season, when Hertha was relegated.

Sports director Fredi Bobic has tried to nip a coaching discussion in the bud so far, only last week he had expressed his confidence in Korkut.

But the situation is becoming increasingly difficult.

Against Frankfurt, the team showed the typical signs of decay of a relegated team.

Hertha made the Hessians strong from the start with blatant mistakes, who have not scored any points or goals in the past three games.

In the individual parts of the team, the players outbid each other with sloppy passes, the gap was only a matter of time.

Central defenders Dedryck Boyata and Kempf in particular had a bad day.

"We were very restless on the ball and invited Eintracht to create chances with our bad passes," said Korkut.

Outburst of rage by Kempf

When Ansgar Knauff scored 1-0, several Berliners were guilty of failing to provide assistance, and it was the same with Tuta's 2-0.

Before Jesper Lindström's third Frankfurt goal, Hertha's goalkeeper Marcel Lotka played the ball straight into the goal scorer's foot, and when Rafael Borré made it 4-1, the defense no longer provided an escort.

It was significant that Frankfurt's fourth goal came just a few moments after Davie Selke's connection, just at the moment when something like hope arose from Berlin's point of view.

Selke later showed understanding for the displeasure of the audience.

“The fans are welcome to let off steam.

We know we have to fight, but we can't do it," said the striker.

It gives a deep insight into the fact that Selke's team-mate Kempf denied the fighting spirit of part of the team.

"Everyone here has to be pissed off enough to work their ass off and take home three points.

Everyone has to understand that and not just walk around here larifari and let yourself be shot 4-1 again," said Kempf.

Bobic had already spoken publicly about deficits in the areas of attitude and passion last weekend.

This is interesting because Bobic sold supporters like Matheus Cunha, Dodi Lukebakio or Jhon Cordoba shortly after his arrival, citing squad hygiene.

A new team spirit has not returned since then, but the trio are missing more goals than ever.

Bobic can no longer commit a goalscorer for the remaining nine games.

Changes, whether sensible or not, are only possible in the coaching position at this late point in the season.
