Chelsea are the reigning league champions, reigning FA Cup champions and won the latest edition of Community Shield.

But there will not be a third straight title in the league cup for the London team, even if it looked like that after 45 minutes of Saturday's final.

Then Australian attacking star Sam Kerr had shown what a goal thief she is by putting 1-0 to Chelsea in the 34th minute.

Norwegian Guro Reiten hit a post from the left, which both Manchester City goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck and left-back Demi Stokes tried to reach the top.

Instead, they ended up in each other's way, which Kerr took advantage of when she hit the target with her back to goal and scored 1-0.

Weir two-goal shooter

But the second half was Manchester City's, and the great match hero was Caroline Weir.

First, she firmly pushed in the equalizer in the 49th minute, played in the penalty area by Georgia Stanway, and less than ten minutes later, she saw teammate Ellen White poke in 2-1 from close range.

And with 20 minutes left, Weir hit right, when the ball steamed down at her feet after a corner.

The 26-year-old Scot thundered up 3-1 in the left cross.

Eriksson on the bench

Chelsea never recovered, and Manchester City thus had to celebrate the club's fourth league cup title and the first since 2019. Among those who cheered at Cherry Red Records Stadium in London was Swedish national team midfielder Filippa Angeldahl, who, however, remained on the bench throughout the match.

It was also Chelsea's team captain Magdalena Eriksson.

The Swedish midfielder was in the match squad for the first time this year.

An ankle injury has stopped her from playing since December, but now she seems to be close to a comeback.

Jonna Andersson started for Chelsea but was replaced in the final minutes, while goalkeeper Zecira Musovic sat on the bench.
