The Ukrainian national team arrived in Beijing on Wednesday.

Due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, it was uncertain whether they would even be able to make it to the championship as some of the team were in Ukraine and some outside the country's borders.

- It is a miracle that we have come here.

It is unbelievable that we are at the Paralympics because we were faced with a question every day: Is there a way to bring both parts of the team together and take us from Europe to Beijing ?, said Valery Sushkevich, chairman of Ukraine's Paralympic Committee at a press conference.

On Saturday, the first competitions started and the Ukrainian Paralympics were impressive in biathlon.

In the sprint for men with visual impairment, they painted the entire stool blue-yellow.

Vitaliy Lukyanenko won before compatriots Oleksandr Kazik and Dmytro Suiarko.

But these were not the only medals Ukraine secured in biathlon.

In the men's standing sprint, Hryhorij Vovchynsky took home the gold and even Oksana Shyshkova won the noblest denomination in the class for visually impaired women.

In addition, silver was taken in the ladies' standing sprint and the men's sitting.

Zebastian Modin was the only Swedish skier in today's sprint competitions.

He came in tenth place in the class for men with visual impairment after a total of five booms.
