The authorities searched the headquarters of the German Football Association, along with other places, yesterday, as part of an investigation into suspected embezzlement.

Frankfurt prosecutors said a former German Football Association official had entered into a service contract with a telecommunications company and paid it 360,000 euros ($400,000), but the deal was said to be "a fictitious contract".

Prosecutors confirmed the ZDF network report, that beside the Football Association headquarters, offices of five companies and the private headquarters of the former German Football Association official in five German states were searched.

No names were released, and prosecutors also stated that a member of the communications agency was suspected of involvement in the embezzlement.

The news comes a week before the election of a new president of the German Football Association, following the resignation of Fritz Keller last year.

This is the latest case involving one of the world's largest sports federations, which has seven million members.

Last year, the authorities searched the headquarters of the company "Adidas" for the supply of sports products, on suspicion of tax evasion, and it was mentioned in the media that the matter was related to the sponsorship of the German Football Association.
