IPK first made the decision to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes at the Paralympics.

But yesterday the turning point came - and the international committee decided to exclude athletes from Russia and Belarus from participating.

The Swedish Paralympics, together with athletes from other nations, have landed in China and the situation is special.

- It is very sensitive.

In the dining room in Zhangjiakou, which is very large, there are a lot of people from many nations.

Yesterday, for example, there were ten Russian leaders in the food queue.

Then came two precocious Ukrainian leaders with heavy shoulders and it became quiet throughout the dining room.

We thought "poor thing, how do they feel".

Then I went forward and asked how they were.

Then the tears flowed.

They thought it was fantastic what support they received here, says Niclas Grön to SVT Sport.

"A special road"

The Ukrainian Paralympics have historically been a great success.

This year, they deserve to be presented with a medal regardless of achievement, says Grön.

- They do not know if they can come home or not afterwards.

They have had a special road and IPK has worked hard to get them here with equipment.

Many nations have reached out and helped.

He believes that IPK's decision to port Russian and Belarusian athletes was correct.

- It is the only option.

There is nothing else.

I'm relieved.

Now the speculation is over and we can breathe a sigh of relief.

We have had a good organization, the Swedish Paralympic Committee has worked hard in sports policy.

Through letters and pressure, we have made IPK change its decision.

The speculation and the consequences would have been wild west otherwise.

"Then I'm in"

The sports director has heard that the war will possibly be noticed during the inauguration ceremony.

- Then I will support Ukraine if that should be the case.

Despite the circumstances, the Swedes try to focus on sports.

Green has high expectations and hopes, just like the whole squad.

- We have halved the squad and increased the medal mark.

We have the best potential squad now since 2004.

Our medal goal is two medals.

We want to aim higher, but we have debutants in the alpine branches.
