None of the regular Ukrainian World Cup biathletes will compete during the rest of the season.

For example, Dmytro Pidruchny, who won World Cup gold in 2019 and participated in the Olympic Games in Beijing, announced via social media that he will stay in Ukraine to "protect our homes and families".

But in the World Cup in Otepää, Estonia, Ukraine will be represented.

Sisters Julia, 20, and Olena Horodna, 17, have previously competed in the junior context but are now allowed to participate in the World Cup for the first time, the Ukrainian Biathlon Federation announces.

Julia and Olena Horodna managed to evacuate from Ukraine to Poland at the beginning of the Russian invasion.

The association writes that the sisters will receive help from the Czech Biathlon Federation before and during the competitions in Otepää.

"It is very important to show that we and the entire biathlon world stick together," writes the Ukrainian Biathlon Federation on its website.
