The European Football Association (ECA) has suspended the membership of the seven Russian member clubs with immediate effect, due to Moscow's military operation in Ukraine.

The League held a meeting at the Tottenham Hotspur club in London on Tuesday, during which it endorsed the recent decisions of the Executive Committee of the European Football Association (UEFA) (UEFA), and the transfer of the Champions League final from Saint Petersburg to the capital, Paris.

"Over the past week, the ECA acted quickly and resolutely to support and participate in UEFA's decisions to suspend the participation of all Russian clubs in UEFA competitions, as well as UEFA's decision to terminate its commercial partnership with Gazprom," the ECA said in a statement on its official website.

The association indicated that it "has been in constant contact with the Ukrainian member clubs, and that it is studying various ways to help Ukrainian football by granting facilities to the players, in addition to providing funding."

And a series of sports sanctions against Moscow follow the decision of the International and European Football Associations, the day before yesterday, Monday, to exclude Russian teams and clubs from all official tournaments.

Russia was also prevented from playing its official matches on its soil until further notice.

At dawn last Thursday, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine, which was followed by angry reactions from several countries, and the imposition of "tough" economic and financial sanctions on Moscow.
