Russian Formula 1 driver Mazepin banned from British Grand Prix

The British Motorsport Federation announced that the Russian driver Nikita Mazepin was banned from participating with the Haas team in the British Formula One Grand Prix, in light of the crisis of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Yesterday, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) allowed Mazepin to compete in Formula One as an independent athlete, but motorsport officials in Britain decided to prevent him from participating in the British Formula One race scheduled for Silverstone on the third of next July.

"In Britain, the recognition of licenses issued by the Russian Automobile Federation and the Belarusian Automobile Federation has been suspended," the British Motorsport Federation said in a statement.

As a result, he added, no athletes or officials from Russia or Belarus would be allowed to participate in motorsport competitions in Britain.

The federation stressed that the decision was taken "in consultation with the British government and national sports institutions, to ensure that there is a unified response to the crisis."

This step comes in light of the suspension of Russia's participation due to its invasion of Ukraine in sports competitions, most notably the announcement by the International Football Associations (FIFA) and the European Football Association (UEFA) to exclude Russia from their competitions, whether at the level of teams or clubs until further notice.
