On Friday, the International Judo Federation decided to cancel the grand slam competition in Kazan, Russia at the end of May due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

On Sunday, the news came that the International Judo Federation will suspend Russian President Vladimir Putin as honorary chairman.

"In light of the ongoing war in Ukraine, the International Judo Federation has suspended Mr Vladimir Putin as honorary chairman and ambassador of the International Judo Federation," the IJF wrote in a statement on its website.

Now the Russian president is also being stripped of his black belt in taekwondo.

It is announced by the International Federation on Tuesday.

"Peace is more important than triumphs," the union wrote in a statement, announcing the withdrawal of the black belt awarded to Vladimir Putin in November 2013.
