The way of collecting fire in each location is different and has its own characteristics.

This is what the reporter learned from the media briefing on the torch relay theme of the Beijing Winter Paralympics on the 1st.

The torch relay of the Beijing Winter Paralympics will be held in Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou from March 2nd to 4th. It will be divided into three parts: fire collection, fire gathering and torch relay.

Blind school teachers and students sing songs to ignite Paralympic fire

Yang Haibin, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau and deputy director of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee's Torch Relay Special Team Operations, said that the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee has designed nine fires to be integrated into the official fire of the Beijing Winter Paralympics.

One of the fires is collected from the spiritual birthplace of the disabled sports, Mandeville, England, and the other eight fires are collected from the three competition areas of Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou.

These eight fire collection sites include schools, communities, libraries and other landmarks for the disabled, representative historical and cultural landmarks and modern science and technology parks, as well as the fire collection sites for the 2008 Beijing Summer Paralympics.

Yang Haibin said that the fire collection methods at each location are different and have their own characteristics.

For example, the Temple of Heaven Park will follow the traditional fire collection method of ancient Greece, using concave mirrors in the fire collection site of the 2008 Beijing Summer Paralympics to collect sunlight and ignite the fire sticks, reflecting the inheritance of the Summer Olympics.

The school for the blind will sing songs by the choir of teachers and students of the blind school. When the singing reaches a certain decibel, the audio booster will trigger the ignition device to ignite the fire, reflecting that the blind can experience the world with hearing and integrate into society with music.

Upper and lower limb-assisted exoskeleton robot debuts in Paralympic torch relay

Xu Zhijun, deputy secretary-general of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee and director of the torch relay special team of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, said that the torch relay of the Winter Paralympics will also be interspersed with the scene of disabled people using the upper and lower limbs to assist the exoskeleton robot to relay the torch.

Xu Zhijun said that on the morning of March 4th, in the Winter Paralympics Torch Relay in Shougang Park, a torchbearer with an upper limb disability and a lower limb paraplegic torchbearer will carry out the torch relay with the help of the upper and lower limb exoskeleton equipment respectively.

This upper-limb disabled torchbearer can now achieve autonomous grasping function after 9 months of adaptation training using the upper-limb power-assisted exoskeleton equipment, and will pass the torch by holding the torch.

Another lower limb paraplegic torchbearer can walk upright for delivery after 5 months of adaptation training using the lower limb power-assisted exoskeleton equipment.

Xu Zhijun said that the two torchbearers used exoskeleton equipment to carry out the torch relay, which is to convey to people the idea of technology changing life and making the impossible possible.

It will inspire more disabled people to face life bravely, not to abandon, not to give up, and to live independently, and at the same time, it is in line with the concept of the torch relay of the Beijing Winter Paralympics.
