FIFA has issued a joint statement with the European Football Federation (UEFA), stating that the Russian national team and club teams cannot participate in the competitions they organize.

As a result, Russia, which was scheduled to host the Qatar World Cup playoffs from the 24th, failed to compete in Gyeonggi-do and failed to advance to the finals.

Russia is the third FIFA to ban competition for political reasons, after South Africa, which was banned in 1964 and 1976 because of racism, and Yugoslavia, which was banned in 1994 because of the civil war.

The Russian Football Association protested that it was against the spirit of sports and would file a complaint with the Sports Arbitration Court.

The IOC also advised its affiliates to withdraw the Belarusian delegation from international competitions that had cooperated with Russia and the invasion, and also withdrew the Olympic medal given to Russian President Putin.

As a result, international federations such as swimming, badminton, ice hockey, and rugby decided to leave Russia one after another. .
