Last week, Russia began its invasion of Ukraine.

The invasion has created a great debate in the sports world where many federations and athletes now refuse to meet Russian teams and athletes.

This Friday, the Paralympics begin in Beijing, and now the Swedish Paralympic Committee, together with the ditto of Finland, Denmark, Norway, the Faroe Islands and Iceland, has submitted a letter to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

The letter states that the Nordic countries' Paralympic Committees strongly recommend that the IPC consider excluding Russia's Paralympic Committee and the Belarus Paralympic Committee from participating in the forthcoming Beijing summit.

- We are in an extraordinary and serious situation and then it is important to act clearly.

Together with our Nordic neighbors, we will be stronger, says the chairman of the Swedish Paralympic Committee, Åsa Llinares Norlin.

Awaiting response on Wednesday

The countries also call on the IPC to do everything in its power to ensure that the Ukrainian troops are given the opportunity to participate.

The IPC's response to the letter is expected on Wednesday.

The Paralympics in Beijing begin on Friday.
